Finished With WordPress. Please Visit Other Blog

September 23, 2009

I’m not blogging as much as I used to but when I do, I will be using Blogger again.  I’m impressed with WordPress when hosted on ones own server but WordPress.com is not my style.

My other blog can be found HERE!

Considering Moving Back to Blogger

August 4, 2009

I’m considering moving my blog back to Blogger. Although I think WordPress is very cool if you host your own site, the WordPress.com service is not impressing me and has made it harder to stay motivated to post…

…stay tuned…

Brian McLaren & The Emergent Church

June 29, 2009

I came across this blog today after watching this video and it forced me to ask the following question:

How can a teacher say this:
“Brian McLaren’s response when asked about gay marriage:
‘You know what, the thing that breaks my heart is that there’s no way I can answer it without hurting someone on either side.’
––Brian McLaren, Time magazine interview, February 2005″

…and not be a wolf as defined by  the Scriptures?  He’s said in a gay forum referenced in the blog linked to above that we shouldn’t even have an opinion on the subject until we have “enough points” as defined by him.  I don’t agree that every quote listed on the blog is wrong and may not agree with the blogger on the extent of McLaren’s errors, but there are some unnerving questions about his orthodoxy and his credentials as a legitimate teacher.

Where in the Scriptures does it say that telling the truth is OK as long as it doesn’t hurt someone’s feelings?  If we love someone, it seems like our words sometimes must be used as a surgeon’s scalpel:  it’s really going to hurt but it heals the healable.

Your thoughts?

Reaction To Iowa Supreme Court Ruling

April 4, 2009

I am concerned about yesterday’s Supreme Court Ruling striking down Iowa’s Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) paving the way for same-sex marriages for a few reasons:

1. Judicial Supremacy – I’m not comfortable with a Republic that allows unelected political appointees the final say in all legal and consitutional matters.  When did the Executive and Legislative branches abdicate to the Judicial branch all their authority?  It wasn’t always this way.

2. Christian Response – I am very concerned that the response from the Christian community is going to come across ignorant and hateful.  Focusing on the health ramifications of homosexuality or holding up signs that say “we are getting what we deserve” are not ways to win the legal argument or win people to the Kingdom.

I have been impressed so far with the Iowa Family Policy Center as most of their comments have been focused on the process and the lack of input from the people of Iowa on the subject.  I hope they keep that up.

3. History of Gay Agenda – We are not the first state or the first nation to legalize gay marriage.  But we are the first state to pass it without a residency requirement which may turn Iowa into the Las Vegas of gay marriage.  This has ramifications nationwide as states are Constitutionally obligated to honor marriages from other states.

Additionally, we can look into the future by seeing what has happened in Scandinavia, Canada, and other nations that have advanced gay marriage, hate crimes legislation, and Civil Rights policies.  If we go down the same path (we have passed the same initial language in numerous state legislatures and in Congress), we will see pastors in jail, churches sued, and citizens dragged before Civil Rights Commission boards.

I believe most homosexuals simply want to be treated equally from their perspective and have no desire to sue churches, see pastors in jail, or cause a scene in any way.  But there is little doubt that the leaders of the homosexual rights movement will never be done simply with “equity.”  They will not stop until there is no opposition.  Hopefully our ideals as free people with inalienable rights will prevent America from taking the same path as other nations…but I also thought those same ideals would prevent the government from ever participating in a $12 trillion bailout with takeovers of private industries too.  We may be in trouble.

Chicago Lottery Numbers On Election Day

January 14, 2009

I was amused by the news from a friend today that Chicago’s Pick 3 lottery numbers on election day was 6 – 6 – 6.

You can see the results here.

Another Reason For Private Schools

January 6, 2009

Not sure what’s sadder – the ignorance and vitriol of the teacher or the fact that it happened in an American public school classroom.  I know this is old news but I had to share.  This clip was taken from a Finnish documentary on Obama supporters:

WordPress.com Themes

December 29, 2008

If anyone knows a great WordPress.com theme that has style and is clean, let me know.

I want Archives, Blogroll, and links to show up. I like the page navigation at the top, and I like the publish information (tags, cats, timestamp, comments, etc.) to show up at the bottom of the post. Any suggestions?

edit: I’m super disappointed to learn that I am stuck with the 70 or so very mediocre themes available on WordPress.com. Anyone know if I can modify them? How?
